‘I’ve been living in Uniondale from birth. I’m now 41. I can’t remember how long I’ve been cycling and building my own bicycles. I’ve had this one for more than 10 years. It’s almost like my wife, this one. I tell everyone that this is my wife here so I don’t lend her out. No, look - your ride is your wife, you can’t lend her out. I’ve only lent it out once and something bad happened - my tire burst. I had to buy a new tire. This rack on the back here I picked up in the trash. Look, in there is my food bag and my tools, my patch and solution and a small tomato plant that I’m taking home to plant there. This pump here I fixed up myself as well, but I need to buy a new jockey... this bike means everything to me - if someone offers me a new bike I’ll first have to think about it!’
