‘My name is Edward Zozi, and I’m 31, and I’m doing gardening. I live in Samora Machel, Philippi. I got this bike form my brother. He brought it form Jo’burg. I love riding bikes, actually it’s saving my money and I’ve been running - I’m an athlete so I’m just gaining fitness from the bike. I compete in half-marathons, and last year I ran a 42 kilometer. It went okay because I made it in 3 hours and 18 minutes. But I wasn’t happy with my time. I was targeting 2 hours 40 minutes, but then I had some cramps and fell out... My previous bike I got from my old boss when he moved to George. Unfortunately my shack burned down and also my bike was in there. This bike I have now I bought it form my brother for R600, because I told him I was desperate - looking for another bike. For my fitness. But I’m struggling with this one - it doesn’t have brakes! I took it to get it fixed but it’s going to cost R2000 for only the brakes! They say that they do not have these brakes anymore now, so they want to take the off and put new ones. It’s very expensive. I have to put money away so that I can just reach that R2000, so I can fix them because I do love cycling. And I save a lot of money - R500 per month. Because I’ve used a taxi before to Samora, to Wynberg, Wynberg to Diep River, each and every day. Now I’m saving all that.’
