'Everything is close by here, one can't actually understand that more people don't cycle here. It is also bad for a car when you only drive a little distance and then stop again. We've found that the exhaust rusts because of the condensation. I teach Afrikaans at the CVO school, so I cycle there sometimes. It is just a little nice ride there. Especially in the fresh winter air. One feels good when you've ridden there. It is senseless to drive two blocks to go and buy bread. Sometimes when I cycle to the shop and I leave the same time as a car, by the time they get out of the car we've taken the same amount of time. I think most people that are my age that have not cycled in a long time are just scared of trying it out again. The bicycle I use to go to the shops is not a very good bicycle, I bought it for a R1000 at the Game store. I have another one with more gears that I use to go to the school. The most enjoyable thing for me on the bicycle is when I become daring enough to ride with no hands, just to pedal and not hold on - then I feel young. Ha ha, but I am young because I cycle.'
