Miss Beautiful - South Africa in pageants, was recently celebrated at the Johannesburg launch of our latest publication. Amongst the kings and queens, princes and princesses present were Sam Manganye - Mr. HIV / Aids Awareness, Rochell Mothapo - Miss Soweto, Balungile Zikalala - Little Miss Skwatta Camp and Charné Churchill - Miss Gay South Africa International. These guests of honor were signing books and partying late into the night along with the authors and creators of the book.

Day One’s german language follow-up to the very successful African Salad, Das is(s)t Deutschland was recently launched alongside a comparative exhibition between the two projects entitled Homemade at the Goethe Institute in Johannesburg. Annie and Mel Wilmans and Mzion Mofokeng featured in African Salad had actual  furnishings from their homes exhibited alongside a installation from Michael Foertsch’s home who appears in Das is(s)t Deutschland sent all the way from Berlin, Germany, and photographs from both books.

Miss Beautiful - South Africa in pageants, was officially launched at the International Design Indaba Expo held in Cape Town at the beginning of this year. The highlight of the event was a drinks party where many of our Cape area king and queens were present to sign books and pose for photographs.

African Salad returns

Since the launch of African Salad in 2005 we’ve been revisiting all the families that appear in the book to give them a copy to say thank you for being part of the project. The return journey has been just as special and it’s been really great to see people’s reactions to the book and their own photographs and stories. We’ve been getting all our characters to sign their respective pages in our own special copy. These photographs were all taken by Brian Hill who joined photographer Stan Engelbrecht on one of these journeys...
